Tidy Dares for 2018

Enter if you wish

(you know you want to)

It’s that time of year where we get too many presents, eat too much food, and start thinking about our resolutions and goals for next year. 2018 is going to be a good one and I just know it. After all, it’s an even-numbered year and those have no choice but to be winners. As we hone in on who we want to become in 2018, lots of things may come to mind (a minimalist, meditating yogi who eats rounded meals, never whines and does 50 crunches a day, perhaps). How exciting!

Since tidiness is my comfort zone and you may want to get in here, I’ve got a few resolution suggestions that I dare you to take on. Heck, add them all to your list because we all know that only a few are bound to stick. We’re only human.

1) Stop impulse buying. It’s easy to have a closet full of stuff that you don’t wear and end up guiltily getting rid of if you’re constantly making purchases on a whim! Think before you buy. My rule of thumb is: if you don’t want to wear it out the door, it’s not worth buying. Worst thing is you just can’t get that item out of your head, so you go back and take the plunge after some thought.

2) Hang, fold or launder your clothing at the end of each day. This is one of the secrets of tidiness. Tidy folks don’t let their clothing hit the floor! And if they do, it’s certainly not there after bedtime. Get undressed near your closet so you can immediately hang up whatever needs to be, throw all laundry straight into the hamper, and fold the rest. Damn, it’s gonna be a good year.

3) Don’t let junk mail touch your countertop. You know what junk mail turns into? Piles of junk mail, that’s what. *Danger zone* So, send it all straight to the recycling bag as soon as you see it! Bonus points if you unsubscribe from magazines that you don’t want or never even asked for to begin with.

4) Use up samples and stop bringing more into your life. Yes, samples can be great if you use them systematically. But more often than not, they end up being more worthless stuff in your life. To take advantage of this year to use them up (moisturize 3x daily if you have to) and say “no” next time someone offers you one. I double-dog-dare you.

5) Start keeping one master to-do list. Got post-it notes stuck to every wall of your house? Enough! It’s most effective to keep a single to-do list running than to have tons and tons of little lists strewn about. So buy a new notebook, get a brand new fancy pen if you have to, and start keeping all of your to-do tasks in one place. Yes yes yes!

HAPPY NEW YEAR AND YOU GOT THIS!
