Did you know that you can COMBINE METRO CARDS? Das right. And this is as life-changing as it sounds. If you've got a bunch of metro cards lying around with various amounts of nickels and dimes on them, you can whambam them together and come out with a fully-loaded card. All you have to go is go to the (wo)man at the booth in the station and ask them to combine your cards. As long as the card itself is not expired, it's as easy as pie. Not only is this a great way to lighten your metro-card-in-wallet load, it's an efficient way to cruise that subway. You're welcome.
